alternate email
Looks like my lohnet.org mail server is down; don’t know when it will be back. Use my same username @gmail.com in the meantime. Update: of course they resolved it right after I finally got around to posting about it.

Meme: First sentence of first post of each month of 2009
Jan: “DIY BIO: clone at home but kill them later” (Sandra Porter) … I just love that title. [Clone on the Range] (actually, this is the 2nd post) Feb: Here’s an interesting mix of articles about public imaging. [Just say "Cheese!"] Mar: According to the Clarion Ledger article “18 running for Jackson [Mississippi] mayor“, “Incumbent [...]

Stupid Spammers
I think this is the first time I’ve noticed an error like this in my blog spam; emphasis mine: I just wanted to stop in and say how-do-you-do to everyone. I wanted to acquaint myself, my name is Ashley. Hello all, my name is Keith.how-do-you-do to all, I am recent here and my name is [...]

My First Theme
As you may have noticed, I popped in a new theme a couple days ago. The code is based on Ian Stewart’s “How To Create a WordPress Theme: The Ultimate WordPress Theme Tutorial“, which I highly recommend. I’ve hacked up the code and had a lot of tedious fun sorting out the CSS ordering dependencies. Don’t [...]

Upgrade to WordPress 2.8.1
I just upgraded Isotropic to WordPress 2.8.1 from 2.7.1. I backed up the database, rsync’d my site to my local disk, and clicked the Upgrade button. All of that took less that five minutes. Very slick.

As sort of a followup to my Comment Spam post, here’s a quick way to get a list of spammers to deny via your .htaccess file (or whatever method you chose to ban IP addresses). First, the SQL statement to get the list; put it in a file called list-spammers.sql: SELECT count(comment_author_IP) AS 'Count', comment_author_IP [...]

Upgrade to WordPress 2.7.1
I upgraded my blog from WordPress 2.6.3 to 2.7.1 earlier this evening. It was simple and quick: unpacked the 2.7.1 kit into a scratch directory backed up my current installation (see the “pull” script below) copied (and updated) my original .htaccess and wp-config.php files into the scratch tree deactivated all my plugins rsync‘d the scratch [...]

Popular Posts
Yes, I’m still alive, but kinda busy. I’m way behind on personal email, life maintenence, etc., so I’ve not really thought about posting lately. Just to keep on the radar, I thought I’d mention a couple old posts. VMware Server 1.08 on Fedora 9 is by far my most popular post; mostly searches looking for [...]

FeedBurner Links
Oh, I forgot about the FeedBurner updates…. By February 28th, all FeedBurner accounts should have been moved to Google accounts. The main FeedBurner site has changed from feedburner.com to feedburner.google.com, but subscriptions and such should continue to work indefinitely with the old addresses. However, it would be wise to convert when you get a chance [...]
